Ireland has become a very desirable work destination for many businesses. In no small part, this is due to our skilled workforce and stable business environment. However, in this blog post we are not going to look at why businesses come here but instead, we will look at what you can expect when working in Ireland
As most Irish people will attest to, we are different but in a good way, once you understand us. One of the most famous Irish sayings is ‘Cèad Mìle Fàilte’and it translates to ‘One Hundred Thousand Welcomes’. For the most part Irish workers live up to this saying by going out of their way to make non-Irish workers feel welcome.
Irish people are very sociable and they will engage in plenty of small-talk. While this can be seen by other nationalities as a waste of valuable work time, in Ireland this is how we build working relationships. This small talk will often revolve around sport, weather and general life in Ireland.
This small talk is often accompanied by jokes, humour and banter. This is merely our way of expressing ourselves in conversations. While Irish people come across very relaxed and casual, when we are finished with the obligatory small talk we like to get straight down to business. This shifting of gears can catch some off guard. When discussing business, we do not appreciate cheap boastful talk but we do appreciate well-informed opinions that are communicated well.
