Join us on Wednesday 30th September from 9:30am to 3:30pm for our online Parenting Conference that will provide a panel of expert speakers on the topic of Parenting. Parents of all age groups face a range of challenges in these uncertain times. Anxiety levels in children and teenagers are rising. 45% of under-25s in Ireland are currently unemployed and over 40% of children and teenagers have suffered Cyberbullying in the last 12 months. So, we have brought together this panel of experts who will share key insights on how to:

- Understand, manage and support children or adolescents through anxiety
- Set your children up for future work and career success
- Identify and address ways for parents to protect their children and teenagers when online

|John served in the Irish Prison Service for over 42 years. He was Governor of Mountjoy Prison for over 22 years and Governor of the top security prison at Portlaoise for almost 4 years. In 2013 he wrote a book on parenting with the title “Parenting –|
raising your child in Ireland Today”. John argues that there is a direct link between crime and social and economic deprivation and believes that the biggest challenge facing us today is not the economy but how we are going to create a just, inclusive and cohesive society based on the core values of justice, equality fairness and compassion.

Dr Aileen Murtagh is an Assistant Medical Director with Special Responsibility for Adolescent Mental Health Services and a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist in St Patrick’s Mental Health Services. She has worked with children and adolescents in a variety of settings with a range of mental health difficulties, including outpatient CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services), inpatient adolescent units, a day hospital and a paediatric hospital. She has published and presented her work nationally and internationally. She has been an invited lecturer to Irish third level universities and teacher training colleges. She has consulted to the HSE on service development. She has developed online and blended learning courses. Her media work has included contributions to Prime Time, Newstalk, the Irish Examiner and the Irish Times. She has participated in an Oireachtas meeting of the Joint Committee on Future of Mental Health Care, speaking about Irish adolescent mental health services.
Dr Murtagh will discuss anxiety and stress in young people. Anxiety is one of the commonest mental health issues in Irish youth. Rates appear to be rising further in the context of the viral pandemic, which has led to significant changes to life as we know it. This talk will cover the signs of problematic anxiety and how parents can support their anxious child/teenager

Mark Blayney is the author of Succeed in Your First Job, an essential guide to entering the work of work for the first time. He sought a career in business rescue and turnaround, obtaining an MBA. He is the author of a number of practical guide books. Mark is actively involved in business training and education having spoken at a number of leading UK business schools.
Mark will discuss how he wrote his book titled “Succeed in Your first Job” to help young people with the social and self-managing skills needed to deal with a workplace environment. He will speak to the parents on how young people entering the workforce for the first time can gain an understanding of the workplace culture and the demands of their role, dealing with conflicting priorities, managing difficult colleagues, learning new tasks, and how to say no to unmanageable demands. Mark’s advice will help young people launch a successful career

Jason O Mahony MSc, is the founder of Children of the Digital Age. This is an online safety educational company affording a range of dynamic and engaging courses, both in Ireland and internationally. Jason is a member of a number of International collaborations set up to address the harm both children and parents face online.
Jason is also now working as a consultant with several highly dedicated and experienced global advocacy organisations, who are collaborating to prevent and address the sexual exploitation and Human Trafficking of women and children, online and off. This work includes addressing the harm caused by exposure to pornographic content and the hyper sexualization of teens and children.
Jason will discuss the growing trends at normalizing pornification through the media and countless social media platforms. Concern is growing with regard to the overt hypersexualization of children, both on and offline. He will identify and address ways for parents to better engage with their children in this area.
